sustainHK Green Business Map

As an outdoor enthusiast in Hong Kong, I’ve always tried to recycle responsibly and support local sustainable businesses. However, I noticed that despite Hong Kong’s strong recycling infrastructure and abundance of green spots, there was no single, easy-to-use platform to find them all. This inspired me to build sustainHK—a cohesive map where users can discover nearby eco-friendly restaurants, hotels, zero-waste shops, and recycling points in seconds. The platform allows users to find detailed information on sustainable businesses with a simple click. We’ve also integrated government data to include over 5,700 recycling locations across the city, a significant jump from our initial 84 points. To ensure the platform continues to grow, we’ve included a submission form for users to suggest new eco-friendly gems they discover. Building this as a high school senior with no prior coding experience was a rewarding challenge. Using Floot, I was able to manage everything from custom domains to a polished UI in one place. The checkpoint system gave me the confidence to experiment, turning what could have been a complex coding project into an achievable and fun experience.
