Inspired by the limitations of financial management tools, I set out to create an internal finance system that startups would truly find valuable. While establishing the financial operations for my own startup, Phela, it became evident that we needed a straightforward way to manage expenses, approvals, payments, invoicing, collections, and runway – all in one place. Many existing tools only addressed specific issues, leaving us juggling multiple platforms and spreadsheets to get the full picture. So, I built FinOps Lite, an integrated internal finance operations system tailored specifically for startups. This platform allows founders and teams to oversee their financial activities seamlessly, including handling expenses, vendor payments, client invoices, revenue tracking, investments, and burn rate. By consolidating these functions into a single dashboard, FinOps Lite provides a clear view of cash balance, burn, and runway, without the complexity of traditional accounting software. Initially developed for Phela, my team now relies on FinOps Lite for all our financial tracking needs. As we scale, I see potential in sharing this tool with other founders who seek a simplified alternative to juggling multiple finance tools. One of the most remarkable moments in my journey was witnessing how quickly this intricate system came together. In just a day, we integrated essential workflows that typically require multiple SaaS solutions into one cohesive platform. This experience reinforced my belief that operators can create the tools they genuinely need instead of adjusting their processes to fit existing software.
